Subtitles are very important for some people, even if they understand the spoken language. If you can't find any subtitles that are well synchronized with your movie, you can try to make one yourself. MovieCaptioner will help you create and synchronize caption tracks. All you have to do is listen to the movie's audio track and type what you hear. The software allows you to caption your movie segment by segment, making the process easy and fast.

MovieCaptioner is available for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, as well as various Mac OS X platforms. The 15 MB setup package can be downloaded in a few seconds, with a modern day connection and you can install it just as fast. Before you run the software, you should make sure that QuickTime 7 is installed on your PC or Mac.

The program supports numerous media formats, including MOV, MP4, OGG and others. Once you load a movie, you can play it with MovieCaptioner's built in video player, located in the upper left area of the interface. Captions are typed beneath the media player and you can also change their font settings, in the same area. Stored captions are listed, in chronological order, on the right side of the window, where you can edit them or change their start times.

The best part about MovieCaptioner is the way it allows you to create and synchronize subtitles. Instead of clicking the Play button, on the media player, you may click the Start option, in the lower left region of the window. The program will loop short segments of your movie, so you can listen to each spoken line, over and over again, until you are sure what you should type. When you are done, you may click a button or hit the Enter key, to store your caption. Once a caption is saved, the software will start looping the next segment automatically. If a sound starts in one segment and ends in the next, you may type two remarks, in the same segment and use a breaker to place them on separate lines. Alternatively, you can change the loop's duration.

A series of options, located beneath the captions list, allow you to insert, remove, split or merge the captions. You can save your project as a file, in MovieCaptioner's native format. When you load the project, to resume your work, you may pick up where you left off right away, just by clicking a button. It is also possible to preview your captioned video, with QuickTime 7. When your work is complete, you can export the caption, using numerous output formats. The program allows you to import captions as well, making it possible to edit existing projects, without starting from the ground up.

Pros

The software loops video segments, with a duration of your choosing. When you insert a new caption, the program will move to the next segment automatically. You can insert special characters, line breakers, split or merge captions and more. MovieCaptioner supports numerous input and output formats and its functions are easy to understand.

Cons

If you want to insert a symbol, you have to scroll through one of the top menus. It would be more comfortable if the symbols were displayed on a separate window. MovieCaptioner will change the way you caption your movies and make the process faster and easier than ever.
